After a wildfire storm destroyed his neighborhood 2003 in southern California, Richard purchased a garden center in Washington State in 2005 and converted it into an inspirational Nature & Art Center called EdenArts. Working with art associations, recovering addicts, battered women, the local homeless shelter and the high school teens-at-risk program, Richard developed EcoArt Therapy as an important healing modality for helping others to expand self-awareness and encourage self-healing.
In 2008, he enrolled at John F. Kennedy University’s School of Holistic Studies in the Dept. of Arts & Consciousness in Berkeley, California. and received a Master’s Degree in Transformative Arts in 2010. In addition to refining and expanding his fine arts practice, he created the vision of expanding his unique healing program called EcoArt Therapy Workshops that combines psychology, ecology and expressive arts therapy in a transpersonal group setting. Richard has helped over 300 clients in a 15 year period to transform their lives using the EcoArt Therapy healing modality. Richard currently divides his time between teaching, hosting Earth Blessing rituals, and counseling private clients with EcoArt Therapy techniques. He continues to exhibit his artwork in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York and in Boston, Massachusetts.
In 2022, Richard purchased 5 acres of raw desert land in an Eco Community called West Sacred Earth Place to create his dream of The EdenArts Center in Tucson, Arizona. In a few short years, the retreat center now has a 2600 sq ft. four bedroom, three bath home containing hundreds of artworks from around the world. There are two private guesthouses for artists in residency.
